Islamabad – As Eid al-Adha approaches, digital payment systems are streamlining transactions at Pakistani cattle markets. JazzCash and easypaisa, two major digital wallet providers, have established QR code payment options at numerous markets nationwide. This initiative aims to reduce the risk of fraud and pickpocketing associated with large cash transactions during the holiday.
The deployment of QR codes allows buyers to navigate cattle markets with minimal cash, relying instead on their mobile phones for secure payments. This move aligns with the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) “Go Cashless” campaign, promoting a digital economy.
Azhar Abbas, a frequent cattle market visitor, noted the risks of carrying large sums of cash. “The average person carries between 30,000 and 80,000 rupees while shopping for animals,” Abbas said. He added that digital payment methods provide increased security and peace of mind.
The QR code system is simple: users scan the code via their digital wallet app and enter the transaction amount. Sellers receive immediate payment confirmation, eliminating the need to handle large amounts of cash.
