Dinamo Bucharest, a Romanian handball team, has secured their fifth win in the 2024/25 EHF Men’s Handball Champions League. They defeated Berlin (Fuchse Berlin Germany) 38-31 in the 7th round of Group A, held at the Polyvalent Hall – Ioan Kunst Ghermanescu in Bucharest, Romania on October 31 (local time).
This win marks Dinamo Bucharest’s first victory over Berlin after five attempts. With this win, Bucharest has recorded 5 wins and 2 losses (10 points), dropping Sporting CP, which had 4 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses (9 points), and rose to third place. Berlin ranked 5th with 3 wins and 4 losses (6 points).
Dinamo Bucharest’s excellent teamwork in attack and Berlin’s shortcomings in defense and goalkeeping in the second half were key factors in the game’s outcome. Dinamo’s Inoue Langaro Haniel Vinicius and Yoav Lumbroso scored five goals each, while goalkeeper Ionut Iancu made 10 saves, securing the win for the team.
Berlin’s Lasse Andersson scored 8 goals and Mathias Gidsel scored 7 goals, but it was not enough to secure a win for the team.
The first 30 minutes of the game saw a fierce battle between the two teams, with the lead changing hands seven times. The game was closely contested, with neither team able to widen the gap beyond one goal. Dinamo ended the first half trailing by 1 goal, 18-19.
In the second half, Yoav Lumbroso’s consecutive goals gave Dinamo a two-goal lead, 21-19, and they added three more goals to go up 28-24. Berlin launched a counterattack, trailing by one goal, 31-30, but Dinamo scored four goals in a row to take the lead, 35-30. Dinamo won 38-31 with three more goals in the end.
“This feeling is amazing,” said Dinamo Bucharest centre-back Yoav Lumbroso in an interview with the European Handball Confederation. “To win again in front of the home crowd and to maintain our unbeaten record here is fantastic. It’s not easy to win by a big margin, but Berlin also performed very well in attack, and Ionout Iancu came off the bench to save an important shot, and this is Dinamo for us. We have two amazing goalkeepers.”
