On September 13, the first Zhejiang Pickleball Invitational Tournament and the Zhejiang Trials for the 2024 National Pickleball Championship kicked off in Xinchang, attracting more than 100 pickleball enthusiasts and high-level players from 11 cities across the province. It is reported that this competition adopts a combination of group round-robin and knockout competitions, with four events: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles. The top two players in each event will represent Zhejiang Province to participate in the National Pickleball Championship to be held at the end of this month.

As a new sport combining tennis, badminton and table tennis, pickleball has simple rules, is easy to play and has strong social attributes. At the Paris Olympics, pickleball was included in the exhibition event for the first time.

Shouts came from the court one after another, and various folk masters tried their best to win the game. Lei Ying, the runner-up of the men’s singles of the China Pickleball Tour Hangzhou Station, played steadily and won the first group match. Before, he was a tennis enthusiast, but due to an accidental injury, he came into contact with pickleball, which has a relatively low exercise intensity, and was attracted by the fun of pickleball. At the same time, he is also a junior pickleball coach in Zhejiang Province, shouldering the responsibility of promoting pickleball.

Ye Zhijing, who came from Wenzhou to participate in the competition, has only been playing for half a year. She took the opportunity of the competition to meet many friends from all over the country and exchange and learn from each other. “I met many friends in the competition. In the previous Yangtze River Delta Sports Festival pickleball competition, they helped me win the third place in the team.” In this competition, Ye Zhijing signed up for the women’s singles and women’s doubles events. The competition task is heavy, but for her, participating in this competition is more about enjoying the fun brought by the competition.

Before the competition, the provincial intermediate coach training camp for pickleball was held in Xinchang, which was the first national intermediate coach training camp for pickleball. The relevant person in charge of the Provincial Social Sports Guidance Center introduced that in the future, the development of pickleball in our province should pay equal attention to coaches and athletes, and widely develop the population base of pickleball through competitions and promotion activities.
