RIGA, Latvia – A new direct passenger train service connecting Tallinn, Estonia, and Riga, Latvia, commenced operation on Monday, January 12th, enhancing transportation links within the baltic region. The service is a joint venture between Estonia’s elron and Latvia’s Pasazieru Vilciens (PV).
The train route travels from Tallinn to Riga with a stop in Tartu, Estonia, eliminating the need for passengers to transfer trains. According to the operators, the journey from Tartu to Riga takes approximately three hours and 41 minutes, while the complete Tallinn-Riga route is scheduled to take around five hours and 56 minutes.
Within Latvia, the train will make stops in Valga, Valmiera, Cesis, and sigulda before arriving at Riga Central railway Station. Latvian train crews will operate the service within latvian territory, specifically the segment from valga to Riga.
