Costa Rican authorities suspended classes for Monday, August 17, 2026, across more than 100 educational institutions due to severe weather and regional disruptions. According to government reports, the precautionary closures affect multiple schools and technical centers nationwide to ensure student and staff safety.

The Ministry of Public Education confirmed that the suspension applies to a targeted list of facilities where infrastructure or local access has been impacted. Among the named institutions are Colegio Rural Línea Vieja, Colegio de Duacarí, CINDEA Río Jiménez, and Liceo Experimental Bilingüe Río Jiménez.

Additional rural and regional schools included in the emergency suspension order are Escuela Dúrika and Escuela Cartagena. Officials stated that monitoring of local conditions will continue as weather patterns develop across the affected provinces.

Families and school administrators in the designated districts have been advised to monitor official channels for updates regarding reopening schedules. The government will evaluate facility safety conditions before authorizing the resumption of in-person classes at each impacted site.
