Discover ‘By the Bog of Cats’: Newbridge Drama Group’s Captivating Play at Riverbank Arts Centre

By the Bog of Cats by Marina Carr is the latest production from Newbridge Drama Group.

The play is set in the Irish midlands and draws inspiration from the Greek myth, Medea. It features mystical elements, including ghosts, and focuses on Hester Swane, a woman affected by being abandoned by her mother in childhood. This abandonment shapes her life and relationships.

Hester is a settled traveler who faces further heartbreak as her partner, Carthage Kilbride, leaves her and their child to marry someone else and follow his ambitions.

Directed by Mary Linehan, the play stars Martina Smith and Keith Walsh in leading roles.

Carol Duffy, a spokesperson for the group, promises an engaging experience: “We can promise you a play with plenty of drama, wonderful characters, and live music on stage! The score was written and is performed by local musician Mairead Carroll.”
