Discover Life Lessons for Kids in ‘The Varmits’: A Heartwarming Tale of Family and Growth
The Varmits: A Heartfelt Tribute Through Children’s Literature
OCEANSIDE, Calif. — John Lamb is fulfilling his twin brother Dave’s childhood dream with a new children’s book titled The Varmits. The story shares important life lessons with young readers through colorful characters.
In 1971, the Lamb family experienced a tragic loss when Dave was killed in a car accident at the age of 18. John, who survived the crash, recalls the devastation of losing his identical twin. Before his passing, Dave wrote and illustrated three children’s books, which included characters that carried meaningful messages.
One of the books, The Critter, teaches children the importance of cleanliness. Another book addressed the theme of respect. However, The Varmits stands out as it tells the story of children who learn that rude and selfish behavior leads to unhappiness. The characters discover that sharing and being polite can bring happiness and friendships.
Although Dave could not complete these books, John’s discovery of The Varmits on his grandson Elvis‘ bookshelf inspired him to finish it more than 50 years later. Elvis took a keen interest in the story, prompting John to continue his brother’s legacy. The new edition, enhanced with illustrations and a glossy finish, honors both Dave’s original work and their bond as twins.
John is well-known in the animation industry, having won an Academy Award and received an Emmy for his contributions. He revolutionized animation with his inventions and creative prowess.
Reading The Varmits to Elvis has brought a joyful connection between John and his grandson. Elvis loves spotting a ladybug hidden on each page, adding an interactive layer to their reading time. The book is a gift for Elvis, dedicated to Dave, ensuring his memory lives on.
