Bombay HC Continues Disha Salian Death Probe Amid Conflicting Claims
The Bombay High Court is continuing its investigation into the 2020 death of Disha Salian, former manager to the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a 14th-floor apartment in Mumbai. While police have classified the death as a suicide, Salian’s father, Satish Salian, alleges she was gangraped and murdered, prompting the ongoing legal battle.
Mumbai police, in an affidavit to the High Court, stated that Disha Salian died by suicide and that the postmortem report showed no signs of sexual assault. They added that she was under “tremendous mental stress” due to family issues and professional setbacks. The police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) after the incident.
Satish Salian filed a petition in March, requesting the Central Bureau of investigation (CBI) to take over the case and file a First Information Report (FIR) against Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray. He claims his daughter’s death occured under suspicious circumstances and alleges a politically motivated cover-up to protect influential individuals. The court has scheduled a further hearing for July 16.
Senior Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar of the Malvani police station stated in an affidavit that Disha Salian was intoxicated and jumped from the window of her own volition. Her fiancé,who was present at the time, also dismissed any suspicion of foul play. The police maintain that their closure report is based on scientific investigation and the postmortem report, which found no evidence of assault.
Despite the police findings, Satish Salian argues that an FIR should have been registered before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) began its probe into the alleged gangrape and murder. He claims the current investigation is illegal due to the lack of an initial FIR.
Aditya Thackeray has also filed an application seeking to intervene in the matter, asserting that Satish Salian’s petition is false and motivated. The court is urged to hear Thackeray’s side before making any decisions.
What’s next
the Bombay High Court will continue to hear arguments and review evidence in the coming weeks to determine the next steps in the investigation into Disha Salian’s death. The court’s decision will significantly impact the future role of investigating agencies.
