the Walt Disney Company is implementing major layoffs, impacting hundreds of employees across its Disney Entertainment divisions.These cost-cutting measures affect various sectors,including film and television marketing,television publicity,casting,advancement,and disney’s corporate financial operations.
Sources indicate that the scale of reductions within Disney Entertainment’s film and TV departments is substantial. The majority of affected Disney Entertainment Television staff are reportedly based in Los Angeles.
These layoffs represent the fourth and largest round in the past ten months, impacting various Disney television operations. The company is restructuring to prioritize streaming services amid ongoing economic challenges. These entertainment layoffs are part of a broader effort to streamline operations and reduce costs.
Since returning as CEO, Bob Iger has set a goal to cut costs by at least $7.5 billion, starting in 2023. This initiative includes the elimination of approximately 7,000 jobs throughout the company.
Earlier this year,nearly 200 Disney employees were laid off,representing almost 6% of the workforce in the ABC News Group and Disney’s Entertainment Networks,wich include Freeform and FX.
A significant restructuring occurred in October,involving the shutdown of ABC Signature,with its operations integrated into 20th television. Additionally, ABC and hulu Originals scripted drama and comedy teams were consolidated, resulting in about 30 Disney Entertainment Television layoffs.
Lower-level development executives, including a drama programming manager at ABC Hulu, have also been affected by the recent cuts.
