Orient Mako 20th Anniversary Edition: A Masterpiece of Japanese Watchmaking
On September 20, Epson launched four models of the ”Orient Mako” with chronograph function from the representative series of the “Orient” diving design.

The “Orient Mako” series has been praised since the 1960s as a masterpiece of the Orient, and one of its features is the dolphin icon on the back of the bag. Since its introduction in 2004, various variations have been developed. The chronograph model, added to the mechanical watch category in 2013, uses a light charging system that converts energy, such as sunlight, into electrical energy to power the watch.
The dial is painted with a gradation of blue from the 12 o’clock position to the 6 o’clock position to evoke the image of the beautiful oceans surrounding Japan, and features a printed pattern with a wave pattern. The words “Anniversary Edition” are positioned at 4 o’clock, and the gold-plated hands create a special feeling of the 20th anniversary. In addition, the unidirectional rotating bezel, characteristic of the “Orient Mako”, is divided into elegant blue and black colors between the triangular index and the 20-minute scale position, giving it a special impression just like the dial design gives.

The light charging is done through three subdials. The index at 12 o’clock has Arabic numerals reminiscent of the first generation “Orient Mako”. By applying luminous light to the index and hour and minute hands, the time is easy to read even in the dark.
Available in 4 colors: blue, light blue, red and ivory. The windshield is made of sapphire crystal and is water resistant up to 20 ATM.

The 20th anniversary model is limited to 300 pieces in Japan, while the ivory model is limited to 100 pieces in the online store. The retail price is 46,200 yen for the light blue, red and ivory and 52,800 yen for the blue gradation (20th anniversary model).
