Novak‍ Djokovic is chasing history at the French Open,⁢ aiming for ⁤a record-extending 25th grand Slam title. The 38-year-old Serbian star advanced to the semifinals after a 4-6, 6-3,⁤ 6-2, 6-4 victory over Alexander Zverev.

However, the path to the title ‍won’t ⁣be easy. To claim victory, ⁢Djokovic faces a formidable challenge: defeating‍ world No. 1 Jannik ‌Sinner in the semifinals and potentially No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion, in the final. No‌ player in ATP rankings history ‍has ever defeated the top three players to win a Grand Slam.

Before their match, Zverev acknowledged the⁢ role Djokovic plays in ‍major tournaments. “He’s never going to be a dark horse,” Zverev said. “he definitely knows what it means to be on ⁢the big stage and to play⁤ big‌ matches.”

Zverev added, “For me, Carlos [Alcaraz] is the⁤ favourite… Then I would say the next ⁤three in line are Jannik [Sinner] myself and ‌Novak, ‍right? I still believe that. Novak is⁢ up there with us, no‌ question about that at all.”

Djokovic retired from his Australian Open semifinal ⁢against Zverev in January due to a leg ‌injury. Sinner ⁣then defeated Zverev in the ‌final.

What’s next

Djokovic will face Jannik Sinner⁢ in the French⁣ Open semifinal. The‍ winner ‍will advance to the final against ⁢either Carlos Alcaraz or another competitor.
