Yesterday afternoon saw significant disruption on the E4 highway north of Huskvarna following a traffic collision. While the road has now reopened since 4 PM,authorities warn that lingering congestion and slow-moving traffic are likely to persist throughout the day. Here’s what you need to know.
What Happened?
A traffic accident brought traffic to a standstill on the E4 in both directions just north of Huskvarna on Sunday afternoon. Emergency services worked swiftly to clear the scene, and the highway was fully reopened around 4:00 PM. However, the incident has created a ripple effect, impacting traffic flow for miles around.
Why is Traffic Still Slow?
According to Peter Ström,duty officer at the East Police Region, several factors are contributing to the ongoing delays:
Heavy Traffic Volume: It’s peak holiday season, meaning more vehicles are on the road than usual.
Ongoing Roadwork: Road construction in the area is already causing reduced capacity and slower speeds.
The Accident Itself: Even with the wreckage cleared, the initial shockwave of the accident continues to affect traffic patterns.
“The combination of these factors means you can expect viscous traffic for the rest of the day,” Ström explained.
Police Advice to Motorists
Despite the temptation to seek alternative routes, police are advising drivers to stay on the E4*.
“Some motorists have attempted to use smaller roads, which has actually created more chaos,” Ström stated. “It’s better to remain on the E4, but please maintain a safe following distance to avoid further incidents.”
