DNCD Seizes Over 4,000 Vape Pens and Edibles in Major Drug Bust at Airport
The National Direction of Drug Control (DNCD) announced the seizure of over 4,000 electronic cigarettes filled with liquid believed to be marijuana. Agents, along with the Specialized Body of Airport Security (CESAC), conducted an inspection at Las Américas International Airport. They intercepted several boxes that arrived from the United States.
After being sniffed by trained dogs, the boxes were opened. Inside, authorities found 4,086 electronic cigarettes, 358 chocolate bars, and 195 gummy candies made with cannabis. The Ministry of Public Affairs and the DNCD have started an investigation into this drug haul.
The boxes were sent by a purported company located in Miami and were expected to be received by a woman living in Los Mina, Santo Domingo Este.
To improve their operations, the DNCD has increased its personnel for the busy holiday season. They deployed 140 agents and canine units to handle the higher volume of passengers and goods. More agents will be present in critical areas as Christmas and New Year festivities approach.
