Dog Food Giveaway Aims to Support Pets in Need

Teh Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) and the Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) are teaming up to host a drive-thru dog food giveaway this Saturday. the event,scheduled from 10 a.m.to noon at DMARC, located at 100 Army Post road, aims to provide crucial support to families struggling to feed their pets. This pet food assistance initiative comes at a time when demand for such services is higher than ever.
Cargill, based in Albert Lea, Minn., contributed significantly to the cause with a donation of more than 65,000 dog food meals. Distribution will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, with over 70 volunteers from Fort Des Moines assisting in the effort.
The ARL provides donated pet food regularly through the DMARC Food Pantry Network, which includes 14 pantry locations, a mobile unit, and a home delivery service. This year, the network has already distributed nearly 40,000 pounds of pet food, benefiting 2,610 pets and 683 families.
In 2024,DMARC food pantries assisted more than 75,500 individuals,reflecting an unprecedented level of need within the community.
