A 70-year-old Egyptian man faced punishment after kicking a customs beagle at Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia. Hamed Ramadan Bayoumy Aly Marie kicked Freddie,an agricultural detector dog,after the beagle identified illegal items in his luggage.
Marie arrived on an EgyptAir flight from Cairo and was at the baggage claim when he kicked Freddie, sending the dog into the air. Agricultural detector dogs,like Freddie,are trained to identify prohibited items such as plants,fruits,vegetables,and seeds.
The ”Beagle Brigade,” as they are known, plays a crucial role in preventing the introduction of harmful pests and diseases into the United States, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Freddie, now five years old, was initially found on a road in Georgia. He was then trained to join the Beagle Brigade, where he sniffs out various meats, including snake and camel.
CBP officials emphasized the importance of their K9 partners and condemned the attack. They stated that any malicious act against a CBP employee or K9 unit is considered an attack on the entire agency.
