Doja Cat is bringing her high-energy performances to Africa for the first time, headlining the 2026 Move Afrika tour. The tour, a project of Global Citizen, will take place in Kigali, Rwanda on , and Pretoria, South Africa on .
Move Afrika isn’t simply a concert series; it’s a multifaceted initiative designed to bolster African creative industries and generate economic opportunities. Now in its third year, the tour aims to connect global artists with local talent, production crews, and audiences, fostering skills development and job creation across the continent. The project began in Kigali in 2023 and expanded to Lagos in 2025.
For Doja Cat, the tour holds particular significance, given her South African heritage. “From my South African roots straight to the world stage, we’re bringing energy, purpose, and real change to Move Afrika in Kigali and Pretoria,” the Grammy® award-winning artist stated. “This isn’t just a tour, it’s a movement that creates jobs and opportunities that last. I’m proud to be part of something that celebrates Africa’s creativity, invests in its future, and shows the world that Africa isn’t coming, it’s already here.”
The commitment to local involvement is a core tenet of Move Afrika. According to Global Citizen, over 90% of crew and production roles in previous editions have been filled by local hires, with the majority of equipment and services sourced within the host countries. This approach isn’t just about providing employment; it’s about fostering sustainable growth within the African live events ecosystem, creating lasting skills and infrastructure.
Hugh Evans, Co-Founder & CEO of Global Citizen, emphasized the tour’s broader impact. “She has delivered unforgettable performances at some of Global Citizen’s most defining moments… Now she joins us as we expand across the continent… Move Afrika is redefining global touring by placing Africa’s creative excellence at the center of the international circuit, creating jobs, strengthening local creative industries, and driving long-term economic growth powered by culture.”
The initiative extends beyond simply providing jobs in event production. Move Afrika also aims to support the broader creative economy, connecting artists, designers, technicians, and vendors with opportunities to showcase their talents on an international stage. This focus on participation and skills development is intended to build stronger, more resilient local economies.
Beyond the economic benefits, Move Afrika also incorporates a social impact component. The 2026 campaign will focus on supporting strong and well-financed health systems, with a particular emphasis on primary care, sexual and reproductive health, and access to quality health services. This work will be carried out in collaboration with local partners, amplifying existing grassroots initiatives and ensuring that the campaign is responsive to the specific needs of each community.
The long-term vision for Move Afrika is to establish a recurring touring circuit that consistently invests in African cities, supporting the development of venues, skills, and creative networks. The goal is to position African cities as premier destinations for world-class live music and cultural events, driven by African talent and expertise.
