Bohemians’ Unbeaten Run Ends in Thrilling Encounter with Peamount
Dublin, August 20, 2025 – Bohemians’ extraordinary nine-game unbeaten run came to a dramatic halt against a steadfast Peamount United side, thanks to a comeback spearheaded by the exceptional Ellen Dolan. The All-Island Cup finalists, having recently been narrowly defeated by Athlone Town in a bruising FAI Cup battle, started brightly despite the suspension of key player Mary Philips.
The visitors signaled their intent early on with a powerful 25-yard effort from Jess Fitzgerald that sailed just over the bar. As the game settled, the hosts began to find their rhythm, with Hannah Healy becoming increasingly influential, initiating a promising move down the right flank that saw Sarah McKevitt deliver a dangerous low cross, ultimately cleared by Peamount skipper Karen Duggan.
A engaging midfield battle unfolded between Irish Under-19 internationals Aoibhe Brennan and Fitzgerald, both vying for control of the game. Controversy arose midway through the first half when Dolan burst into the box, appearing to be fouled by Lisa Murphy and Katie Lovely, but referee mark Moynihan waved away the protests.
Peamount began to assert their dominance, finishing the half the stronger.Sadhbh Doyle and Dearbhaile Beirne both had strikes from distance that narrowly missed the target, and a chaotic scramble in the area led to claims from the Peas that the ball had crossed the line.
Against the run of play, it was Bohemians who broke the deadlock a minute before halftime. Brennan intercepted a pass from Beirne, played a neat one-two with McKevitt, and continued her run into the box, showing strength to hold off doyle before expertly finishing into the near post with her left foot.
The hosts came out firing after the break, nearly doubling their lead with two rapid chances. Lovely forced a brave save from Amanda Budden, and then McEvoy tested Budden’s reflexes.
However, the momentum soon shifted. Peamount were awarded a penalty when Fiona Donnelly was adjudged to have handled the ball. Player of the Match, Dolan, stepped up but saw her penalty saved low to her left by Rachael Kelly.
Dolan, undeterred, showed immense character, quickly turning the game on its head with two excellent goals in five minutes. First, she rose highest to head home Fitzgerald’s deep free-kick. Then, she picked up the ball and unleashed an unstoppable right-footed shot from the edge of the area, completing the turnaround.
Bohemians attempted to respond, bringing on fresh legs, with Savannah Kane using her pace to threaten down the right, but Duggan proved a formidable opponent. Despite the efforts of the 468 supporters cheering them on, bohemians couldn’t find a way back into the game.
Peamount’s resilience and Dolan’s brilliance ultimately secured a well-deserved victory, ending Bohemians’ impressive run and showcasing the exciting talent emerging in Irish women’s football.
