The ⁢emotional ballad encapsulates Dolly’s⁢ deep affection for her lifelong partner. The song begins ⁣with the heartfelt lines: “If you hadn’t been ⁢there, where would I be? Without your trust, love, ‍and belief, the ups ‍and downs, we’ve always shared, and I‍ wouldn’t be here‍ if you hadn’t been there.”

She continues,⁣ reflecting on Carl’s unwavering support: “always saw the best in me” and that⁢ his “loving arms have cradled⁢ me, you held me close, and I believe I wouldn’t be here‌ if you hadn’t been there.”

Other lyrics express gratitude for carl being her “rock,” enabling her to “dream ‌more than I dared” and “pushing me on when I was scared,” while ⁣also crediting‍ him with giving her “wings⁢ and confidence.”

Dolly Parton and ⁣Carl dean married in May 1966 in a private ceremony in Georgia. Despite Dolly’s prominent career, Carl preferred⁤ a quiet life⁤ away from the spotlight. Dolly mentioned that Carl “loves” music but is “not the least bit interested in being in it.”

Dean also recounted their meeting,⁣ stating: “My first thought‌ was ‘I’m gonna marry that girl. My second thought ‍was, “Lord she’s ‍good lookin'”.’

Carl also inspired Dolly’s‍ hit song, “Jolene,” which she penned about a bank teller who flirted with her husband.
