Known by friends and family for his down-to-earth nature and deep compassion, Peterson maintained professional and personal ties across several Western states. Early Life and Musical Pursuits
Born on Oct. 23, 1942, in Kalispell, Peterson developed a lifelong passion for bluegrass music. During the 1980s in Libby, he played as a band member in Dave and Roxie Burns’ band, Lovin Country. His musical talents also connected him with close friends such as John Kennedy, a retired Arizona Justice Court Judge and fellow bluegrass musician based in Arizona. Professionally, Peterson worked as a private contractor specializing in hazardous fuels reduction through mechanical treatment. His business operations spanned Montana, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. He collaborated with Bob Wilson, formerly of Libby, on the Nevada Greater Landscape Coalition project, earning a reputation for integrity and honesty in his dealings with local, state, and federal projects. In addition to his contracting work, Peterson contributed to public safety as a member of the Ajo Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers, assisting the Pima County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona. Peterson is survived by his wife, Fran, of Libby, Montana. He also leaves behind his sons, Peter Eastman of Reno, Nevada, and Bill Ericksmoen of Juneau, Alaska, as well as a daughter, Tori Howard of Kalispell, Montana. Additional surviving family members include his brother, Doug Peterson, and sister, DeeDee Balum, both of Winnemucca, Nevada, alongside several uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Among his personal circle, Russ Hudson of Ajo, Arizona, served as a close friend and mentor.
