Donald Trump Appoints Chris Wright as Energy Secretary, Focusing on Affordable Energy
Donald Trump Appoints Chris Wright as U.S. Energy Secretary
Jakarta – President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Chris Wright as the Secretary of Energy in his upcoming cabinet. Wright is a businessman in the energy sector.
In a statement, Trump said, “As Energy Secretary, Chris will be the main leader, driving innovation, cutting bureaucracy, and ushering in a new ‘Golden Age of American Prosperity and global peace.'”
Wright is the founder of Liberty Energy, which significantly increased U.S. fossil fuel production in recent years through techniques like fracking.
Wright stated on his X account that he will focus on making energy more affordable in the U.S. He said, “My dedication to improving people’s lives remains firm, with a focus on making American energy more affordable, reliable, and safe.” He expressed eagerness to start his work, stating, “Energy is the source of life that enables everything in life.”
Previously, Wright denied the existence of a “climate crisis,” arguing that “there is no climate crisis and we are not in an energy transition.” He called the term “carbon pollution” exaggerated, noting that all life depends on carbon dioxide. He claimed there is no such thing as clean or dirty energy, as all energy sources have both positive and negative impacts on the environment.
According to Reuters, Wright will also serve on the newly formed National Energy Council. Trump said this council will involve all agencies related to “licensing, production, generation, distribution, regulation, and transportation” of energy.
Trump Appoints Karoline Leavitt as Youngest White House Press Secretary
Donald Trump has named his campaign spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, as the White House Press Secretary. The 27-year-old is described as smart and tough.
Trump stated, “Leavitt is smart, tough, and has proven to be a very effective communicator. I am confident she will excel at the podium and help convey our message to the American people.”
Leavitt will be among the youngest individuals to hold this key position, acting as the face of the White House while addressing media inquiries. She previously served as the national press secretary for Trump during his campaign and worked as an assistant press secretary during his first term. Leavitt also ran for a congressional seat in her home state of New Hampshire in 2022 but was unsuccessful.
Leavitt has experience working as a communications director for Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who was nominated by Trump for a position at the United Nations.
“I did not grow up in a political family. I grew up like most Americans in a middle-class business family in New Hampshire,” she shared in a podcast on Fox News. “I just jumped into politics at my college, Saint Anselm College, in Manchester (New Hampshire).”
