Amazon is exploring a reboot of the reality television series The Apprentice, with discussions centering on Donald Trump Jr. As a potential host. The possibility of a revival comes after Amazon acquired MGM in 2022, bringing the rights to the franchise under its umbrella.
The Wall Street Journal first reported the internal discussions on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, noting that Amazon MGM Studios head Mike Hopkins initiated the idea around the time Donald Trump began his second term as president. Amazon acknowledged the preliminary talks but stated that a reboot is “not in active development.”
“Since our acquisition of MGM, we have had preliminary internal discussions about what’s next for ‘The Apprentice’ as a property,” an Amazon spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal and later confirmed to Variety. “The show is not in active development, and any reporting on details of the show or names of potential hosts would be purely speculative.”
Muted Endorsement from Former Host
Donald Trump, who previously hosted the show from 2004 to 2015, offered a somewhat reserved endorsement of his son’s potential involvement. When asked about the reports on Thursday, April 30, 2026, President Trump stated, “Well, I’ve been hearing it. So we’ll see what happens. He’s good. He’s a good guy. He’s probably good. He’s got a little charisma going.”

The original Apprentice series was a significant platform for Donald Trump, helping to solidify his public image as a successful businessman before his entry into politics. The show at its peak drew as many as 20 million viewers, according to the New York Post.
No Direct Contact Yet
Despite the reports, Donald Trump Jr. Has not been directly contacted by Amazon regarding the hosting opportunity. A source close to Trump Jr. Told the New York Post that he first learned of the possibility through the Wall Street Journal article.
The potential reboot has sparked discussion about whether Trump Jr.’s public persona and past rhetoric would be suitable for the role. IMDb’s “The Dish” questioned whether “caustic rhetoric” could hinder his chances as host.
The show’s format traditionally involves contestants competing for a business opportunity under the scrutiny of a prominent business figure. The original series was known for its dramatic eliminations and catchphrases, such as “You’re fired.”
While Amazon has not confirmed any plans for a reboot, the internal discussions signal a potential interest in reviving the franchise. The success of the original Apprentice and the continued public fascination with the Trump family make it a potentially attractive property for the streaming service.
