Former President Donald Trump⁢ has been named TIME Magazine‘s Person of the Year for 2024, marking the second time he has received the prestigious honor.

“For‍ marshaling a comeback of historic proportions,⁤ for driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency ⁤and altering America’s role ‍in the world, Donald Trump ⁢is TIME’S⁤ 2024 Person of the Year,” Time ⁢Editor-in-Chief Sam jacobs said in a letter to readers.

Trump, who will be inaugurated‍ for his second term in january, is set to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock exchange on Thursday to commemorate the honor‍ alongside⁢ several family members.

the magazine’s tradition, which began in 1927 as “Man of the Year,” recognizes a person or movement that “for better or for worse… ‍has done the most to influence the events⁤ of the ⁤year.”

Past recipients include climate change activist⁣ Greta Thunberg, former President Barack Obama, Meta CEO ⁢Mark Zuckerberg, Pope Francis, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Time ‍Magazine editors ultimately decide the winner, selecting from a pool of finalists that this year included Vice President Kamala Harris, ⁣the Princess of Wales, and‍ Tesla CEO ‍Elon Musk, a close confidante⁢ of Trump who will‍ lead an advisory board called the Department of Government ⁢Efficiency.

A Comeback Story

In its‍ description of Trump for the list of finalists, Time highlighted⁢ his “stunning political comeback,” noting his success in⁣ activating young male voters and reshaping the American electorate.

The magazine also acknowledged the ancient significance of Trump’s win, stating, “His 2024 win is ⁤history-making in multiple ways: he will be the oldest President in U.S.history, and he was convicted earlier this year by a New‍ York jury of 34 counts of fraud, making him the ⁤first⁢ convicted felon to be elected President.”

Trump sat for interviews with the magazine in April during the campaign season, discussing his plans for a second term, including his goals of reforming the U.S. immigration system and deporting millions of people.

A Complex Relationship with TIME

in 2015,Trump complained ⁣when he was not chosen for the magazine cover during his first run for office, when the award whent to former German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

After being named Person of the Year following his ‍election win, he⁣ called it a “great honor,” stating, “It means a lot, especially me growing up reading Time magazine. And, you know, it’s a very critically important magazine.”

Despite this,he has continued to‍ criticize the magazine’s choices since winning, including the selection of‍ Taylor Swift as TIME’s Person of the Year‍ in 2024.

Trump Triumphant: A Second Time Person of the Year

Former President Donald Trump has once again been‍ bestowed ⁣with the⁤ prestigious title of TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year, marking a historic second win for the controversial figure.

TIME’s Editor-in-Chief, Sam ⁢Jacobs, lauded Trump’s⁢ “comeback of historic proportions,” ‍his influence on the political landscape, and his reshaping of both the American presidency and the nation’s ‍position in the world.

Trump’s win makes him both the oldest president in U.S. history and the first convicted felon too assume the office, highlighting the unprecedented nature of his‍ political ascent. His victory resonated with specific demographics, particularly young male voters, showcasing his ability⁤ to ⁣mobilize a key segment of the electorate and reshape the American political landscape.

TIME Magazine’s tradition of recognizing the individual or entity who has most⁤ influenced the year’s events, for better or worse, is a critically important ⁤honor. Past recipients include notable figures like Greta Thunberg, Barack Obama, and Volodymyr Zelensky, placing Trump amongst a diverse‍ group of impactful individuals.
