Donegal Man’s Identity Stolen After all-Ireland Ticket Scam
The Scam and Initial Loss
A scam alert has been issued for individuals purchasing tickets online,following the experience of Kyle Leeper,a man from Donegal,who lost €280 after being defrauded with fake All-Ireland Final tickets. Leeper attempted to buy tickets online but received nothing in return for his payment.
The incident didn’t end with the financial loss. Kyle’s sister, Jade, brought the situation to light via social media, detailing the subsequent identity theft.
Identity Theft and Further Fraud
According to Jade Leeper’s social media post, the scammer engaged Kyle in numerous text message exchanges, appearing genuine throughout the process. During these communications,Kyle inadvertently sent a photograph of his identification to the perpetrator.
The scammer then exploited this information, using kyle’s identity to create fraudulent social media profiles. These profiles were then used to target other individuals seeking All-Ireland Final tickets, attempting to perpetrate further scams.
Jade Leeper’s post highlighted that advertisements for All-Ireland tickets were being posted using the stolen identity.
