The “late registration” incident at Dong Zhiying Memorial Secondary School at Ren Chee Hospital has caused social controversy. A senior physical education teacher believes that “there is no such thing as being unable to register” and analyzes that Dong can still compete for the next academic elite tournament.
The school pointed out that the school’s administrative error may cause students to miss the next two Hong Kong elite school football competitions. It believed that students should not be “punished” and publicly requested the School Sports Association to accept the school’s registration for this year’s Sha Xi District Senior Group Competition. Social reactions are polarized. Some people agree that teachers’ negligence should not affect students, while others believe that setting a precedent would be unfair to other schools that registered on time.
Alternative Route to Elite Competition
A secondary school sports department director who has led a team to compete in the elite competition told the newspaper that the registration process for the AAC competition has been moved from paper to online in recent years. This allows for registration at any time within the next two months. The director tried to apply for a reset password and was issued a new password within 1 day, even without contacting the departing colleague. The new colleague can contact the academic body to retrieve the password, and the public can also check the deadline on the website. “If you are willing to follow, you will see the registration date.”
The teacher quoted some academic experience of “god table level” seniors who believed that “deadline is the deadline” and does not allow discretion. If Dongzhong results are high enough, he will not need to be relegated to keep his D1 qualification to compete for the next elite tournament, but the chances of success are estimated to be slim.
