Doraemon Events: Shibuya, Roppongi & Odaiba Takeover – Dates & Details

Roppongi Hills and Shibuya are set to be completely immersed in the world of Doraemon, with a series of events planned throughout the spring and summer of 2026. The beloved blue cat-robot is taking over key locations in Tokyo, offering fans of all ages a chance to experience the magic of the long-running anime franchise.

The first wave of Doraemon-themed activities kicked off with a spectacular drone show over Odaiba on March 7th and 8th, 2026. Featuring 1,000 drones, the show presented a stunning visual narrative, marking a first-of-its-kind event in Japan. This free event drew crowds eager to witness the spectacle of Doraemon and his friends brought to life in the night sky.

Building on this momentum, Doraemon’s presence expanded to Shibuya, and Roppongi. From March 14th to 15th, 2026, both districts were transformed into Doraemon wonderlands. The event, aptly named “Shibuya mo, Roppongi mo, Doraemon dakara!” (Shibuya and Roppongi are full of Doraemon!), saw the iconic character appearing throughout the streets, creating a vibrant and playful atmosphere.

Roppongi Hills, in particular, is becoming a central hub for Doraemon fans. The area is hosting a large-scale installation featuring over 40 life-size Doraemon statues, alongside a massive Doraemon balloon. This isn’t a new phenomenon; Doraemon has been a recurring presence at Roppongi Hills during its Summer Station festivals. The 2025 festival, which ran until August 17th, saw numerous Doraemon statues scattered around the Roku Roku Plaza and the adjacent TV Asahi building. The 2024 festival, lasting from July 20th to August 25th, similarly transformed the area into “Doraemon Square,” complete with statues in various poses.

The collaboration between TV Asahi and Roppongi Hills is key to these recurring events. TV Asahi’s building itself becomes part of the experience, with Doraemon figures displayed in the lobby, including a rare yellow Doraemon – a glimpse of the character’s appearance before turning blue. Visitors to TV Asahi can also participate in a stamp rally, picking up a booklet to collect stamps from four locations throughout the venue. Completing the rally unlocks a free episode of the Doraemon TV series and an original sticker.

Beyond photo opportunities, the Doraemon events offer themed food and beverage options. The TV Asahi’s Summer Fes Garden Cafe features Doraemon-themed treats, including burgers, pizza, and a blue parfait. This adds another layer of immersion for fans, allowing them to enjoy a themed culinary experience alongside the visual spectacle.

The enduring popularity of Doraemon is a significant factor in the success of these events. One of the longest-running anime series, Doraemon boasts hundreds of episodes across multiple iterations, as well as numerous movies and specials. The character’s appeal transcends generations, making these events attractive to families and long-time fans alike. The upcoming ‘Doraemon Birthday Special’, set to be released on September 6th, just after Doraemon’s birthday on September 3rd, further fuels the excitement surrounding the franchise.

The events in Shibuya and Roppongi are not isolated incidents. Similar themed takeovers are happening elsewhere in Tokyo. Shibuya’s MIYASHITA PARK, South 2F Atrium, was transformed with a Powerpuff Girls theme in December 2025, demonstrating a growing trend of anime and pop culture properties utilizing public spaces for immersive experiences.

The Doraemon events represent a strategic effort to leverage the character’s widespread appeal for tourism and cultural engagement. By transforming popular districts like Roppongi and Shibuya into Doraemon-themed destinations, organizers are attracting both domestic and international visitors. The free nature of many of the activities, such as the Odaiba drone show and the stamp rally, further encourages participation and broadens the reach of the events.

As the summer progresses, Doraemon’s presence in Tokyo is expected to remain strong. The ongoing collaboration between TV Asahi and Roppongi Hills, coupled with the character’s enduring popularity, suggests that these events will continue to be a highlight of the Tokyo entertainment calendar for years to come. The events offer a unique blend of nostalgia, entertainment, and cultural immersion, solidifying Doraemon’s status as a beloved icon in Japan and beyond.
