The 2024 F1 Academy season concluded with a dramatic race weekend in Las Vegas, marking the series’ first event at the iconic venue. Prema Racing’s Lena Bühler, known as “Pin,” secured the championship title after a challenging weekend for her main rival, Ferrari Driver Academy’s Maya Weug.
The weekend began with a setback for Weug, who crashed during the formation lap of the first reverse-grid race. Bühler capitalized on this misfortune, winning the race adn extending her championship lead to 20 points.
Final Race Results and championship Standings
In the final race,Weug managed to gain two positions on Bühler,but a win was essential to keep her championship hopes alive. Bühler ultimately finished the season with 151 points, nine ahead of Weug. This marks a significant achievement for Bühler, who finished second to Britain’s Abbi Pulling in the 2023 F1 Academy season.
Race Wins Beyond the Championship Battle
The las Vegas weekend also saw a race win for American driver Chloe Chambers, who converted her pole position into victory in the second race of the event.
F1 Academy’s Continued Growth
The success of the 2024 season has led to a contract extension between Formula 1 and the F1 Academy, ensuring the series will continue for at least another season. This commitment underscores F1’s dedication to developing female talent in motorsport. F1 Academy was launched in 2023 with the explicit goal of providing a pathway for women to progress in motorsport and broaden the sport’s appeal by increasing the depiction of female drivers.
