Dortmund Edge Past Club Brugge, While Celtic Show Steel in Hard-Fought Battle Against Slovan
Champions League: Borussia Dortmund Secures 3-0 Win Over Club Brugge
English substitute Jimmy Gittens, first striker of German football team Borussia Dortmund, led his side to a big 3-0 win over Belgian hosts Club Brugge in the first round of the Champions League with a brace in Bruges.
The two teams played a good match, during which they exchanged attacks and each of them came close to scoring multiple times, until Gittens leveled the visitors with two goals in 10 minutes after entering the 68th minute, replacing Austrian international Marcel Sabitzer.
Gittens put Dortmund ahead in the 76th minute, then added a second when he received a ball from Felix Nemecha, maneuvered past two defenders and shot home (86).
Another substitute, Guinea international Serho Gerasi, finished with the third goal from a penalty kick which he grabbed himself after being blocked by defender Brandon Michel (90+5).
Champions League Draw
The draw pits Dortmund against Spain’s Barcelona and compatriot Real Madrid, Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine, Scotland’s Celtic, Belgium’s Genk, Austria’s Storm Graz and Italy’s Bologna.
Club Brugge will play England’s Manchester City, Italy’s Juventus, his native Milan, Portugal’s Sporting and Scotland’s Celtic Aston Villa and Storm Graz.
Celtic Honors Slovan Bratislava with 5-1 Win
Celtic honored its guest Slovan Bratislava, scoring five goals, Irishman Liam Scales (17), Japanese Kyogo Furuhashi (47), Belgian Arne Ingles (56 from a penalty kick), another Japanese Daisen Maeda (70), and another Irishman Adam Edah (87).
Slovan Bratislava scored a goal from Austrian Kevin Wimmer (61).
