Philippines & India Strengthen Tourism Ties During Presidential State Visit

MANILA – Department of Tourism (DOT) secretary christina garcia Frasco is accompanying President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on a state visit to India, marking a meaningful step in bolstering cooperation between the two nations. The visit, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, focuses on deepening ties across tourism, trade, investment, and connectivity.
Expanding Tourism cooperation: A Key Focus
“We are honored to be part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s state visit to India, as we strengthen bilateral ties and unlock greater opportunities for tourism cooperation,” Secretary Frasco stated. The DOT has strategically prioritized the Indian market, recognizing its immense potential for growth. This includes initiatives to improve connectivity, streamline visa processes, and curate compelling travel experiences tailored for indian tourists.
Strategic Meetings with Key Indian Stakeholders
Secretary Frasco’s agenda includes a series of high-level meetings with prominent figures in Indian business, aviation, tourism, and entertainment. These discussions aim to forge partnerships and unlock new avenues for collaboration. Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI): Frasco will meet with representatives from FICCI, India’s leading business organization, to explore strategies for increasing Indian tourist arrivals to the Philippines.
Aviation Connectivity: Discussions are planned with Air India and IndiGo, India’s flag carrier and largest low-cost airline respectively, to explore the possibility of establishing or expanding direct flight routes between the two countries. Enhanced air connectivity is crucial for facilitating tourism growth. Tourism Infrastructure & Partnerships: Meetings with hotel operators, resort developers, and travel companies will focus on building strong linkages to support tourism expansion and enhance the visitor experience.
Film Tourism Potential: The DOT is exploring a potential collaboration with the National Film progress Corporation Limited (NFDC),India’s state-run film body,to attract Indian film productions to the Philippines,leveraging the contry’s diverse landscapes and cultural heritage.
visa-Free Entry & Market Growth
India is already recognized as a high-growth source market for Philippine tourism. The recent implementation of a visa-free entry policy for Indian nationals is expected to substantially enhance the Philippines’ competitiveness as a preferred travel destination. This policy removes a key barrier to travel and is anticipated to drive a substantial increase in tourist arrivals.Secretary Frasco emphasized that this state visit is expected to generate more employment and livelihood opportunities for Filipinos nationwide. The broader diplomatic and economic efforts aim to elevate the relationship between the Philippines and India through increased cross-sectoral collaboration and enhanced people-to-people exchange.
