Tropical Depressions May Intensify into Typhoons
The Meteorological Administration said today that the tropical depression northeast of Taiwan and southeast of Guam will have a chance to intensify into a typhoon tomorrow.
Zhang Junyao, a forecaster at the Central Meteorological Administration, told reporters that Tropical Depression No. 15 (TD15), located in the northeast seas of Taiwan, is expected to gradually move toward Zhejiang, China. There is no denying that it has a chance to intensify into a typhoon in the first half of tomorrow, but the influence over Taiwan is gradually diminishing.
In addition, Zhang Junyao noted that Tropical Depression No. 14 (TD14) located in the Southeast Sea of Guam is still moving northwestward and is expected to develop into a typhoon tomorrow. Predictions from different countries still differ and require continued monitoring.
Zhang Juniao said that if TD14 and TD15 intensify into typhoons, they will be the 13th and 14th typhoons this year, Bebigia and Putosang, respectively.
Zhang Juniao said that there will be scattered short-lived rain in the northern region tomorrow morning, local short-lived thunderstorms in the western half and eastern half of the mountainous region in the afternoon, and there is a possibility of locally heavy rain. With no rain in the central and southern regions, attention should be paid to local high temperatures still above 36 degrees in Greater Taipei, Tainan and Taitung regions.
Zhang Junya also noted that on the 12th and 13th, Taiwan was affected by a large low pressure belt and there were localized short-lived showers or thunderstorms in the eastern half of the country, with showers tending to occur in the western part of Greater Taipei in the afternoon.
Zhang Junyao said that Taiwan’s weather from the 14th will depend on the location of TD14 or typhoon, it is expected that the eastern half of the country will experience localized short-term rain and remain cloudy. Thunderstorms will be observed in other areas in the afternoon
Zhang Junya also reminded that on the 15th and 16th, pay attention to the occurrence of long waves in the northern coast of Keelung, the eastern half (including Orchid Island, Green Island), Hengchun Peninsula and Matsu.
Zhang Juniao said that since the tropical system is still forming next week in the large low pressure ring, it cannot be ruled out that a new system will form in the East Philippine Sea next week and there is a possibility. The follow-up of intensifying into a typhoon needs to be monitored.
Weather Forecast for the Next Few Days
Zhang Junyao said that barring heavy rain in the south from the 21st to the 24th, local high temperatures will remain stable.
A low pressure ring will affect central and southern parts of the country over the weekend of the 20th. Watch out for heavy rain.
