FARGO, N.D. — Firefighters extinguished a blaze in a downtown Fargo apartment Sunday afternoon, April 26, 2026, with no injuries reported, according to the Fargo Fire Department.
The fire broke out in a top-floor unit at 14 Roberts Street, a building that also houses Twenty Below Coffee. Flames were visible from the apartment window when crews arrived at approximately 4:09 p.m., prompting an immediate response from the downtown fire station located across the street.
Fire Contained to One Vacant Unit
The Fargo Fire Department confirmed the fire was contained to a single apartment, which was vacant at the time of the incident. All other residents in the building were evacuated safely, and no one was displaced. Firefighters broke out the apartment’s west-side windows to allow smoke to escape, a standard procedure to improve ventilation and visibility.

The blaze was extinguished within 10 minutes of crews arriving on the scene. Police temporarily closed Roberts Street between 1st Avenue North and NP Avenue to facilitate firefighting operations.
Multi-Agency Response
The Fargo Fire Department deployed five engines, a ladder truck, and two command vehicles to the scene. Additional support was provided by the Fargo Police Department, Sanford Ambulance, and the Salvation Army, though no medical assistance was required.
A damage estimate was not immediately available, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to officials.
Businesses Unaffected
Twenty Below Coffee, located on the ground floor of the building, appeared to be unaffected by the fire. Firefighters reported no structural damage to the lower levels, and operations at the coffee shop were not disrupted.
The incident marks the second notable fire response in Fargo within two weeks. On April 15, 2026, a displaced resident was credited with rescuing pets from another apartment blaze, though officials have not indicated any connection between the two events.
The Fargo Fire Department continues to investigate the cause of the fire at 14 Roberts Street. Residents and business owners in the area have been advised to monitor official updates for further information.
