Penge Admits Mistake, Vows to Never Repeat Violation of Tour’s Integrity Policy
Marco Penge, a 26-year-old English golfer on the DP World Tour, is set to return to competition after serving a two-month suspension for violating the tour’s gambling policy. Penge, who finished No.110 in the Race to Dubai last season, was fined $2,500 for placing bets on multiple golf events.
“My bets were all for entertainment purposes to make watching golf more fun,” Penge said. ”… I genuinely thought it was OK to bet on golf as long as it wasn’t on myself or tournaments I was competing in. After I had found out that I had breached the rules and revisited the integrity policy at greater depth, it was only than that I realized this wasn’t the case.”
Penge emphasized that his bets,which averaged 24 pounds,were not placed on himself or any tournaments he was participating in. He also stated that his total profit from the bets was 250 pounds.
“This is all a genuine and honest mistake that I have taken full responsibility for, and I will never ever make the same mistake again,” Penge added.
The golfer is scheduled to return to the course at the Magical Kenya Open,which begins February 20th. Currently ranked No. 414 in the world, Penge will be looking to regain his footing on the tour after the suspension.
