Drake fans are selling pieces of ice and warning signs from the rapper’s Iceman structure in Toronto, turning a promotional stunt for his upcoming album into an unexpected resale market.
The ice installation, part of the rollout for Drake’s album titled “Iceman,” was placed in a downtown Toronto parking lot and opened to the public with warnings not to touch the structure due to safety risks. Despite the warnings, fans approached the ice block with tools including sledgehammers and blowtorches in an attempt to uncover a hidden message about the album’s release date.
After interacting with the structure, some fans collected chunks of ice and the original warning signs that had been placed around the lot. These items are now appearing on online resale platforms, with listings showing ice chunks priced as high as $6,000 and larger pieces offered for up to $25,000. Warning signs from the installation are also being sold for a few hundred dollars each.
The promotional campaign included multiple elements beyond the ice structure. Drake shared a fuzzy photo of himself measuring the ice block with a tape measure before it was opened to the public. Another image showed his eight-year-old son, Adonis, behind the wheel of a police car with a camera person present, though it is unclear if that scene occurred at the same location as the ice installation.
Prior to the ice structure’s public access, an explosion in Toronto’s north end was confirmed by city officials to be associated with the rollout. Drake’s usual courtside seats at a Toronto Raptors game were described as being “frozen out” the week before the ice installation opened.
