Drake University Launches Montessori Education Master’s Program

Drake University is introducing a Master of Science in Montessori Education,designed to bolster the ranks of qualified educators within Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS). The Montessori education program emphasizes practical experience and real-world application over conventional teaching methods.
The exclusive three-year agreement between Drake and DMPS will support a cohort of at least 20 DMPS teachers each year, starting this fall. This initiative responds to the growing need for Montessori-certified teachers in Des Moines, particularly after DMPS announced that Jackson Elementary would transition to a Montessori school, becoming the district’s fourth such program.
Students enrolling in fall 2025 will graduate in December 2027 with a Master of Science in Education in Montessori Education from Drake University. Thay will also receive a Montessori education certificate accredited by the National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector (MACTE).
