in a move to bolster self-reliance in military technology, the Defense Research and Progress Organisation (DRDO) has transferred nine defense system technologies to 10 industry partners. The technology transfer aims to enhance domestic defense capabilities and drive innovation in the private sector,aligning with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.It is indeed expected to reduce dependency on imports, encourage technological advancements, enhance military preparedness, and strengthen public-private ties.
The defense systems being transferred include:
- CBRN recce Vehicle (Tracked) Mk-II
- Mounted Gun System
- Anti-Terrorist Vehicle (Tracked Version)
- 70-Ton Tank Transporter Trailer for MBT Arjun Mk-1A
- Expandable Mobile shelter
- vajra riot Control Vehicle
- Unit Maintenance Vehicle for MBT Arjun
- Multi-Purpose Decontamination System
Among the recipients are Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Forge Limited, Metaltech Motor Bodies Private Limited, BEML Limited, Tata International Vehicle Applications, SDR Auto Private Limited, John Galt International, Tata Advanced Systems Limited, Dass Hitachi Limited, and Goma Engineering Private Limited.
For example, the CBRN Recce Vehicle (tracked) Mk-II, transferred to Bharat Electronics Limited, is designed for reconnaissance in environments contaminated with Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) agents. It can detect, identify, monitor, and mark hazardous areas, transmitting critical information to military formations for strategic response.
DRDO has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with COEP Technological University, Pune, to collaborate on emerging defense technologies.
