Salesforce Mulls consumption Pricing for AI Agents
August 30, 2024: Salesforce is evaluating a new pricing structure for interactions with its AI agents as it prepares to launch the Einstein 1 Agentforce Platform. Salesforce Chairman and CEO Marc Benioff is expected to unveil details of the platform during his Dreamforce 2024 keynote in September.
During Salesforce’s second quarter fiscal year 2025 (2QFY25) earnings call on August 28,Morgan Stanley Analyst Keith Weiss raised concerns that the productivity gains promised by AI agents might lead Salesforce customers to reduce the number of user licenses they require as reported by CIO.com. This potential shift in licensing needs has prompted salesforce to explore consumption-based pricing, where customers pay based on actual AI agent usage rather than per-user subscriptions.
Consumption-based pricing could align costs more closely with value delivered, potentially mitigating the impact of reduced seat licenses. It also allows customers to scale their AI agent usage up or down based on demand, offering greater flexibility.
