Drew McIntyre recently discussed Brock Lesnar’s unexpected return at SummerSlam, offering a characteristically grounded perspective on “Teh Beast.” Speaking with The West sport in Australia while promoting the upcoming Crown Jewel event on October 11th in Perth, mcintyre downplayed any shock, stating simply, “I just thought ‘There’s Brock, there he is.’ I didn’t think anything crazy.”
## Lesnar’s Impact and McIntyre’s History with “The Beast”
McIntyre recounted learning of Lesnar’s return – an F-5 delivered to John Cena – while traveling home after a previous appearance. “I’d finished my last appearance. I got on a plane. I beleive I just arrived home in the Nashville area here where I saw it and I went, ‘Oh, there he is.’ Brock is back.” He acknowledged Lesnar’s ability to generate meaningful attention, adding, “He causes a lot of headlines.”
Though, McIntyre quickly pivoted to a significant point in their shared history: their WrestleMania 36 encounter. He pointedly reminded listeners that he defeated Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania 36 to win his first WWE Championship. “Most importantly he’s also the guy I beat in the main event of Wrestlemania for my first WWE Championship in five minutes.”
## A Brief Look Back: WrestleMania 36 and Beyond
that match, held at the WWE Performance Center with no live audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic, lasted just four and a half minutes. It remains the only singles match between the two competitors to date.
Following his WrestleMania victory, McIntyre’s championship reign saw a series of twists and turns. He initially lost the title to Randy Orton at Hell in a Cell 2020, but quickly regained it on Raw at the ThunderDome. His second reign was ultimately cut short in February 2021 when The miz cashed in his Money in the Bank contract after McIntyre had won the men’s Elimination Chamber match.
