Filipino Tourist Dies in Hong Kong Taxi Collision

August 5, 2025 – A 35-year-old Filipino tourist died after being struck by a taxi in Hong Kong. The incident occurred outside the Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West on Yeung Uk Road, according to reports.

The taxi reportedly lost control and collided with the pedestrian before impacting a wall. Emergency services rushed the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong has confirmed the incident and is assisting the victim’s family.

The 70-year-old taxi driver sustained minor injuries and was taken into police custody. Authorities stated the driver reported feeling dizzy while operating the vehicle. He is currently facing charges related to suspected dangerous driving causing death.

The Consulate is coordinating the repatriation of the victim’s remains and has expressed its condolences to the family. They are awaiting the family’s arrival in Hong Kong to provide further assistance.

The accident took place as the tourist was reportedly standing outside the Nina Hotel with his luggage. He was also reportedly using his phone at the time of the collision.

This incident marks the latest in a series of taxi-related accidents in Hong Kong. January 28, 2026, the Transport Department announced that taxis must offer electronic payment options starting April 1st. Other recent incidents include a taxi flipping after being hit by a suspected red-light runner in Sham Shui Po on January 15, 2026, and an 81-year-old taxi driver being arrested for driving the wrong way on the West Kowloon Corridor on January 8, 2026.

On December 23, 2025, three people were injured after two taxis collided near Queen Elizabeth Hospital. These incidents contribute to ongoing concerns about road safety and taxi driver health in the region.

Separately, a Hong Kong coach driver was charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm after a crash on the Shenzhen Bay Bridge on February 16, 2026. The incident left 17 passengers with minor injuries. Police stated the bus ran into the railings while traveling towards Hong Kong.
