Honduran Man Faces Charges After Fatal Crash Claims Two Lives
Tela, Honduras - A Honduran man is facing charges of vehicular homicide after a devastating car crash on Saturday claimed the lives of a grandfather and his granddaughter in Tela, Honduras.
Mario Antonio Perdomo Flores, 24, was released on bail with restrictions after a court hearing on Sunday. He is accused of causing the accident that killed Iris Vanessa cruz Lara and Luis Alonso Cruz Morán.
The tragedy unfolded on the CA13 highway near Buena vista village when Perdomo allegedly swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid potholes, colliding head-on with the vehicle carrying the victims. A young girl, daughter of Vanessa Cruz, was also injured in the crash.
The bodies of Cruz Lara and Cruz Morán were released to thier family on Sunday afternoon and transported to their hometown of San Juan Pueblo in La Masica, Atlántida. Family members shared that Cruz Morán was en route to the San Pedro Sula airport to catch a flight to the United States, where he planned to spend Christmas with relatives.
As part of his bail conditions, Perdomo is required to report to the Tela courthouse every 15 days and is prohibited from leaving the country. His initial court hearing is scheduled for January 27, 2025.Authorities administered a breathalyzer test, wich came back negative.

Mario Antonio Perdomo Flores,24,the driver of the vehicle that collided head-on with the victims’ car,has been charged with vehicular homicide. Authorities allege Perdomo swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid potholes, resulting in the fatal collision.
The family of Cruz Lara and Cruz Morán is devastated by the loss. Cruz Morán was en route to the San Pedro Sula airport to reunite with loved ones in the United States for Christmas celebrations.
Following a court hearing on Sunday,Perdomo was released on bail with strict conditions,including mandatory reporting to the Tela courthouse every 15 days and a travel ban preventing him from leaving the country. His initial court hearing is scheduled for January 27, 2025.
A breathalyzer test administered to Perdomo returned negative.
The grieving family received the bodies of Cruz Lara and Cruz Morán on Sunday afternoon and transported them to their hometown of San Juan Pueblo in La Masica, Atlántida, for burial.
