Driver Dies After Vehicle Strikes Wall on I-57 Ramp in Harvey
A driver was killed late Sunday night after their vehicle struck a wall on the Interstate 57 northbound ramp to 147th Street in Harvey, Illinois, according to Illinois State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately Sunday, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the driver’s name, pending notification of next of kin.
Initial reports suggested a possible hit-and-run involving a pedestrian and an abandoned Chevrolet Tahoe. However, investigators quickly determined that the victim was, in fact, the driver of the Tahoe, who had been ejected from the vehicle upon impact with the wall.
A report from the Cook County medical examiner’s office on indicated the driver died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the crash.
The Illinois State Police responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. Multiple ramps and lanes were temporarily closed while troopers investigated the incident, causing traffic disruptions. All lanes were reopened by Monday.
The vehicle involved was identified as a black Chevrolet Tahoe. Police have stated that there is currently no further information available regarding the crash.
The incident remains under investigation. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances that led to the vehicle striking the wall and the driver being ejected.
This is the latest in a series of traffic incidents reported in the Chicago area.
