ayodhya district governance on Monday imposed a complete ban on unauthorised drone operations across the district, mirroring a tightening of regulations across Uttar Pradesh following recent incidents of panic and misinformation spread via drone activity. The move, prompted by concerns over security and public order, comes directly after orders from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Expanding Security Measures in Ayodhya
Until recently, drone restrictions in Ayodhya were limited to the immediate temple town area surrounding the Ram Janmabhoomi complex, a necessary precaution given the ongoing security arrangements. However, escalating anxieties fueled by drone sightings in western Uttar Pradesh have led authorities to broaden the ban to encompass the entirety of Ayodhya district.
District Magistrate Nikhil Tikaram funde, leveraging powers granted under BNSS Section 163, formally announced the blanket prohibition. This decision underscores a proactive approach to maintaining peace and preventing potential misuse of drone technology.
“Rumours about suspicious drone activity have been surfacing in several districts,” explained DM Funde during a joint press conference with Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover. “Such unregulated flying could be misused to create panic or aid criminal activities. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors.”
Strict Enforcement and Penalties for Violators
the ban is complete, with exemptions granted solely to police and authorised security agencies. Private individuals and organisations intending to operate drones within Ayodhya district must now secure prior written permission from the district administration. This process will involve a thorough review of the proposed flight plan and the operatorS credentials.
Authorities have confirmed the continued operation of an anti-drone system at the Ram Temple site, reflecting its status as a high-security location. This system provides an additional layer of protection against unauthorised aerial intrusions.
The order in Ayodhya aligns with a state-wide directive issued by CM Adityanath on Sunday, following a high-level videoconference with district magistrates and senior police officials. The CM mandated increased monitoring and strict enforcement of drone regulations throughout Uttar Pradesh.
State-Wide Crackdown on Drone Misuse
The crackdown comes in response to a surge in drone-related incidents. To date,17 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed and 29 individuals arrested in connection with drone-related panic and the spread of misinformation.
CM Adityanath has issued a stern warning, stating that “unauthorised drone operations” will be met with severe consequences, including action under the Gangsters Act and,in serious cases, the National Security Act (NSA).
“Any attempt to spread fear or misinformation using drones will not be tolerated,” the CM declared in an official statement. “Drones flown without permission will be seized, and those involved will face criminal charges. If necessary, their properties will be attached.”
He further instructed senior officials to conduct thorough reviews of drone surveillance capabilities in each district, increase regular foot patrols, and collaborate closely with village security committees to effectively counter rumours and maintain public order.
“Technology must not be misused. Those who exploit it to disturb peace will face the full force of the law,” Adityanath emphasised.
Future Monitoring and the Drone Policy 2023
The existing Drone Policy 2023 is currently in effect, providing a framework for responsible drone usage. However, authorities are actively considering the introduction of additional monitoring mechanisms in sensitive districts such as Ayodhya,Mathura, and Varanasi. This proactive approach aims to enhance security and prevent the misuse of drone technology in areas of meaningful religious and cultural importance. The administration is committed to balancing technological advancements with the need to safeguard public safety and maintain social harmony.
