Transnational Crime network dismantled in Joint operation
A large-scale, international drug trafficking network has been substantially disrupted following a collaborative examination involving law enforcement agencies in Ireland, Poland, and Spain. The operation, coordinated by Eurojust and supported by Europol, has resulted in the seizure of over €800,000 in cash, substantial quantities of illicit drugs, and multiple arrests.
The investigation, spanning several years, focused on polish criminal organizations operating with leadership, transport, and distribution cells strategically located across Europe. This demonstrates the increasingly complex and international nature of organized crime, requiring coordinated responses to effectively combat it.
Significant Drug Seizures Across Europe
In Ireland alone, authorities seized a significant amount of drugs, including 340kg of cannabis herb,155kg of cannabis resin, and 26kg of amphetamines.Combined with seizures in other European countries, the total amount of controlled drugs recovered exceeds 800kg. Seven firearms and several hundred rounds of ammunition were also confiscated, highlighting the perilous nature of the criminal network.

Arrests and Prosecutions
Thirteen Polish nationals residing in Ireland were arrested in connection with the investigation. Notably, a number of prosecution cases originating in Ireland have been transferred to Poland, where the District Prosecutors Office in Gliwice has filed charges against a total of 170 individuals. Polish investigators have also seized assets worth over €11 million across Europe, believed to be the proceeds of criminal activity.
The gangs were specifically targeting the importation of cannabis into Ireland and other European nations, utilizing sophisticated logistical networks to facilitate their operations.
Gardaí Emphasize International Collaboration
Detective Superintendent Dave Gallagher of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau emphasized the importance of international cooperation in tackling transnational crime. “This investigation demonstrates the international dimensions of transnational crime and fully illustrates the benefits of our ongoing collaboration with law enforcement in other jurisdictions,” he stated. He further affirmed that these efforts will continue to focus on disrupting, prosecuting, and dismantling these criminal organizations.
