Chaos on the Tarmac
The disruption began around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, shortly before the Las Vegas-bound aircraft was scheduled to depart. Passenger video captures the man swearing and repeatedly attempting to leave his seat to confront other travellers. The Daily Mail reports that the man tried to attack other passengers before a female flight attendant intervened.
The Warning and Restraint
In the footage, the flight attendant is heard instructing the passenger to listen to instructions and sit down, sir. As the situation escalated, she issued a final warning: If I have to tell you again, I will be restraining you, sir, if you do not stay seated, according to the Daily Mail.
Police Intervention at the Terminal
The Metropolitan Police confirmed officers were called to the scene following reports of a disruptive passenger on the outbound flight. To facilitate the arrest, the plane returned to the terminal. Armed officers boarded the aircraft, where the man was handcuffed and escorted away, as seen in the passenger’s video.
Airline Response and Aftermath
British Airways stated that the airline does not tolerate disruptive or abusive behaviour on board. A spokesperson added that the safety of customers and crew is the company’s highest priority and that appropriate action is always taken when such incidents occur.
In a strange turn, the passenger who filmed the encounter later stated that the flight attendant followed him on social media, and he invited her to a concert in Las Vegas that evening, according to the Daily Mail.
The man remains in police custody while further enquiries are carried out, according to the Metropolitan Police.
