Dubai Enhances Traffic Flow with Umm Suqeim Street and Al Qudra Road Upgrades

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is implementing a major urban project to upgrade Umm Suqeim Street and Al Qudra Road, aiming to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce travel times across the city. The Dubai traffic enhancement project addresses the demands of urban expansion and population growth, enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors.
The Umm Suqeim Street upgrade, stretching from Jumeirah Street to Al Khail Road, is part of a larger plan to develop the Umm Suqeim–al Qudra corridor.Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, stated that this strategic route serves key residential and advancement zones with over two million residents. The project aims to increase the street’s capacity to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, reducing travel time between Jumeirah Street and Al Khail Road from 20 minutes to just six.
The project includes the construction of four bridges and three tunnels, totaling 4.1 kilometers in length. Key improvements include tunnels at the intersections with jumeirah Street and Al Wasl Street, and bridges at the intersection with sheikh Zayed Road. these enhancements are designed to eliminate traffic overlap and improve movement efficiency. Additionally, the project incorporates upgraded pedestrian walkways, a dedicated cycling track, and vibrant urban spaces.
Concurrently, the RTA is upgrading Al Qudra Road, from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road. This includes constructing bridges totaling 2,700 meters and widening 11.6 kilometers of the existing road. Once complete, this phase will significantly boost the overall capacity of Al Qudra Road and reduce travel time from 9.4 minutes to just 2.8 minutes.The road infrastructure project also involves upgrading intersections with new bridges and ramps to improve traffic flow.
“The upgrade of Umm Suqeim Street, from its intersection with Jumeirah Street to Al Khail Road, forms part of a master plan to develop the Umm suqeim–Al Qudra corridor,” Al Tayer said.
What’s next
The RTA plans to continue developing road networks in the area, including enhancements to Jumeirah Street, Al Wasl street, and Al Safa Street. These projects aim to further improve connectivity and support Dubai’s ongoing development.
