Joint Operation Dismantles International Drug Trafficking Network, Seizing Over 14 Million Captagon Pills

Dubai Police, in coordination with Kuwait’s General Administration for Drug Control, have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle more than 14 million Captagon pills, in what authorities are calling one of the largest seizures of its kind.

Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad Al Nahyan, Chairman of the National Anti-Narcotics Bureau, praised the joint efforts and intelligence cooperation between Dubai Police’s General Department of Anti-Narcotics and its Kuwaiti counterpart. This collaboration, he stated, led to the dismantling of the international drug trafficking network.

Sheikh Zayed emphasized that this security achievement embodies the deep fraternal relations between the UAE and Kuwait, reflecting a high level of operational integration and information exchange between the competent authorities in both countries. This, he added, strengthens regional security and tightens the noose on cross-border smuggling networks.

Dubai Police reported that the criminal network employed a sophisticated concealment tactic, hiding millions of pills inside sacks containing corn grains. These sacks were carefully distributed across five containers.

The operation resulted in the confiscation of two tonnes and 250 kilograms of Captagon tablets, totaling 14,062,500 pills. Authorities stated this was a significant bust targeting organized smuggling networks.

Based on confidential intelligence shared with Kuwaiti drug control authorities, investigative teams initiated extensive surveillance. The intelligence led to the identification of three Arab nationals connected to the shipment, which had arrived at the port of an Arab country.

Once the intelligence picture was complete, specialized teams carried out an operation, apprehending the three suspects while they were unloading the sacks in preparation for storage. The entire quantity of narcotics was seized at the scene.

The success of the operation was attributed to the precise analysis of intelligence data and the exchange of information between Emirati and Kuwaiti sides, which helped uncover the network’s plan and monitor the movements of those linked to the shipment. This enabled specialized teams to thwart the operation at a crucial moment.

Dubai Police affirmed that this achievement reflects the high readiness of its anti-drug teams and the efficiency of its security system, which relies on the integration of intelligence analysis and rapid field action, supported by the latest technologies and the training of specialized national cadres.

Authorities stressed that combating drugs remains a top security priority, given the direct threat it poses to community security and stability. They emphasized the continuation of proactive strikes against smuggling networks, and a commitment to preventing the UAE from being used as a transit point or storage location for these toxins.

Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad Al Nahyan commended the close coordination and intelligence cooperation, stating it demonstrates a commitment to protecting society from the dangers of drugs and preserving security and stability in the region.
