Dubai has solidified its position as a global travel hub, recently being named the world’s best-connected city for international travellers. A new study by ground transportation specialists Mozio ranked Dubai ahead of major cities like Prague, Amsterdam, and Singapore, citing its efficient airport-to-city access and competitive transfer costs.

The ranking, which evaluated major travel hubs worldwide, awarded Dubai a score of 7.2 out of 10. This reflects the city’s success in streamlining connections from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to the city centre, a crucial factor for travellers. According to the study, the average transfer time to downtown Dubai is just 24 minutes – faster than all other cities in the top 10, with the exception of Málaga.

This efficiency is particularly noteworthy when compared to other global destinations. Dubai’s 30-minute transfer time is comparable to those of Prague and Vienna, and significantly faster than those of cities like Sydney, and Florence. The availability of frequent public transport, with services running approximately every eight minutes, and readily accessible taxis further contribute to the city’s connectivity.

Beyond ease of access, affordability also plays a role in Dubai’s appeal. The study noted that three-star hotel stays in Dubai average around AED150 per night, making it a more cost-effective option compared to many other highly-ranked destinations. This combination of efficiency, accessibility, and affordability is clearly resonating with international travellers.

The accolade comes as Dubai continues to experience significant growth in passenger numbers. In the first nine months of 2025, DXB handled over 70.1 million passengers – the highest nine-month total on record. Over the same period, the city welcomed 17.55 million international visitors, representing a 5% year-on-year increase and a new 11-month high. These figures underscore Dubai’s increasing prominence as a key destination for both leisure and business travellers.

While Dubai excels in airport-to-city access, the Mozio study also highlighted other cities for specific strengths. Madrid was identified as having the best rapid transport coverage with 70% of residents living near a metro or rail service – the highest percentage in the index. This demonstrates a broader focus on integrated public transport systems in the Spanish capital.

Dubai’s investment in transport infrastructure extends beyond airport connections. Ongoing projects, such as the development of a new underground transport system, signal a continued commitment to enhancing connectivity within the city. The Etihad Rail project, with the recent unveiling of seven new UAE stations, further expands transportation options across the Emirates, scheduled for launch in 2026.

The city’s success in connecting travellers is not merely a matter of infrastructure, but also reflects a broader strategy to position Dubai as a global hub. The UAE has consistently invested in its aviation sector, expanding airport capacity and attracting major airlines. This commitment, coupled with a proactive approach to tourism and business development, has transformed Dubai into a major crossroads for international travel.

The implications of Dubai’s ranking extend beyond the immediate benefits to travellers. Enhanced connectivity can stimulate economic growth by facilitating trade, investment, and tourism. It also strengthens Dubai’s position as a regional leader, attracting international businesses and talent. The city’s ability to efficiently move people and goods is a key competitive advantage in an increasingly interconnected world.

However, maintaining this position will require continued investment and innovation. As passenger numbers continue to rise, Dubai will need to address potential challenges related to congestion, sustainability, and the evolving needs of travellers. The development of smart transport solutions, the integration of new technologies, and a focus on environmental responsibility will be crucial for ensuring Dubai remains at the forefront of global connectivity.

The recent recognition from Mozio adds to a growing list of accolades for Dubai’s transport infrastructure and overall travel experience. Earlier this year, Dubai International Airport reported its busiest day on record at the start of 2026, further demonstrating its capacity to handle increasing passenger volumes. The city’s ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity and improve the traveller experience are clearly paying dividends, solidifying its status as a leading global destination.

Looking ahead, Dubai’s focus on innovation and sustainability will be key to maintaining its competitive edge. The city is actively exploring new technologies, such as autonomous vehicles and artificial intelligence, to further optimize its transport systems. By embracing these advancements, Dubai aims to create a seamless and efficient travel experience for all visitors, ensuring its continued success as the world’s best-connected city.
