Dublin Airport Expects Fewer Passengers This Christmas
Holiday Travel Expected to dip Slightly at Dublin Airport This Christmas
Dublin, Ireland – While the holiday season is typically a bustling time at Dublin Airport, officials anticipate slightly fewer travelers this year compared to 2022.
The airport expects approximately 1.4 million passengers to pass through its terminals between December 18 and January 5, a decrease of roughly 90,000 compared to last year. This dip is attributed to the ongoing passenger cap, which limits airlines from adding extra flights on popular routes to meet peak demand.
“While the passenger cap is holding back numbers flying this christmas, it won’t restrict the high levels of festive spirit and emotion that is synonymous with Dublin Airport at this time of year,” said Graeme McQueen, Media Relations Manager at Dublin Airport.
Despite the slight decrease, the airport anticipates an average of 80,000 passengers daily during the holiday period. The busiest day leading up to Christmas is projected to be Friday, December 20, with an estimated 93,000 passengers. Post-Christmas, December 27 is expected to be the busiest day, with around 97,000 travelers.
Dublin Airport will be closed on Christmas Day,the only day it shuts down annually. A skeleton crew, including Fire and rescue and Airport Police, will remain on duty to ensure safety and security.Passengers are advised to arrive two hours in advance for short-haul flights and three hours before long-haul flights to allow ample time for check-in and security procedures.
To add to the festive atmosphere, Dublin Airport will host a series of holiday performances throughout the season.Over 40 schools, choirs, and local acts will entertain travelers in the terminals, culminating in a performance by the Dublin Gospel Choir on Christmas Eve.Live radio and TV broadcasts will also take place in the days leading up to Christmas.
“For those travelling home for Christmas, we know how special this time of year is and whether you’re reuniting with loved ones or bringing holiday cheer to those near and far, we wish you a safe, smooth, and joyful journey,” McQueen added.
