the alleged thefts have been ongoing for as long as eight weeks, primarily affecting the Crumlin area. An Post, Ireland’s national postal service, confirmed they are cooperating with Gardaí in the inquiry and have identified a staff member as a person of interest.
“An Post sincerely apologises to the affected customers for this upset and inconvenience and we are working to have this mail delivered as quickly as possible,” a spokesperson for An Post stated.
While some undelivered mail has been recovered, many residents remain without vital documents. One Crumlin resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told reporters she hasn’t received any mail since late October, except for polling cards.
“We are missing confidential, time-critical post and incurring money and time costs consequently,” she saeid. “From talking to neighbors, we are missing paychecks, medical appointments, tax discs, legal documents, passports, credit cards, work correspondence, Christmas gifts, etc.”
The situation has prompted newly elected Fianna Fáil TD Catherine Ardagh to take action. In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Ardagh acknowledged the frustration residents are facing, especially with the holiday season approaching.
“I no this is very frustrating for people, especially coming up to Christmas, and I’m going to try to get to the bottom of why mail isn’t being delivered,” she said.
The Commission for Communications Regulation (comreg) has also been contacted and is awaiting a report from An Post on the “serious incident.”
