Dublin Gaelic football star John Small has announced his retirement from inter-county competition, bringing an end to an illustrious 11-season career. The 32-year-old, who plays his club football with Ballymun kickhams, was a cornerstone of Dublin’s dominance in the sport.

Small’s career coincided with a golden era for Dublin football, notably contributing to their historic six consecutive All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) victories from 2015 to 2020. He secured seven All-Ireland SFC titles alongside an notable ten Leinster SFC titles and four Allianz Football League titles.
Recognition of his individual brilliance came in 2020 with an All-Star award, acknowledging his consistent high-level performances.

In a statement, Small expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunity to represent Dublin. He described playing for the senior football team as “the greatest privilege of my life,” emphasizing the lasting memories and friendships forged during his time with the squad.
