Dulce María Announces Pregnancy & New Single: Balancing Motherhood & Music at 40
Mexican singer and actress Dulce María, known for her work with the iconic pop group RBD and a successful solo career, is expecting her second child. The announcement, made in late July 2025, came as a surprise to the artist, coinciding with her approaching 40th birthday, which she celebrated on December 10, 2025.
The pregnancy unfolded unexpectedly, following a period of physical discomfort initially attributed to travel fatigue. “The news came at a point I had not anticipated,” she shared. “I turned 40 in December and this news, this surprise, came in mid-to-late July 2025, which is when we found out. Obviously they all changed my plans, because there always comes a version of you different from the one you already know, and it starts from the moment you find out that you are expecting another baby.”
Dulce María, already a mother to María Paula, has openly discussed the physical and emotional challenges accompanying pregnancy. She acknowledges the often-unspoken discomforts and the profound changes a woman’s body undergoes. “I have tried to take great care of myself, with all the known ailments and symptoms of pregnancy, but no one tells you how uncomfortable they can be and how challenging. Your body changes mentally, hormonally and basically; it changes everywhere.”
The arrival of a second child brings a complex mix of emotions – excitement, nervousness, and gratitude. “It’s like a vertigo between excitement, nerves, fear, excitement and gratitude. It’s a beautiful thing to know that your body is giving life. I didn’t imagine that at 40 I would be feeling this wonder again of knowing that a life is being formed from me.” Her daughter, María Paula, has expressed a desire for a sibling, but Dulce María anticipates a period of adjustment as her firstborn navigates the shift in family dynamics. “Now I think there is a bit of jealousy and this nostalgia to stop being the baby. She is very close to me, she wants to be with me and also with her dad; it’s like she wants to feel small. But I think it’s normal. The challenge will be when she’s born.”
Balancing motherhood with a thriving career remains a central consideration. Dulce María admits uncertainty about navigating this new chapter. “I don’t know how I’m going to be as a mother of two, I don’t know how I’m going to find that balance between my career and parenting.” However, her perspective has been fundamentally altered by motherhood since the birth of María Paula in 2020. “Motherhood changed me completely. From the moment you get pregnant, a version of you begins to be born that you don’t know yet.” This shift in priorities has also influenced her professional choices. “Obviously my priorities changed. Everything changed. My body changes mentally, basically; Your priorities change, your times change, everything changes to be able to dedicate yourself to your children.”
Looking back, Dulce María expresses no regrets about her life prior to motherhood. “I wouldn’t change anything.” She explains that her early career, built on independence and artistic preparation, provided a foundation for navigating parenthood without the pressures of constant touring. “I worked since I was five years old and I built this path to be an independent artist, preparing the ground so that when I had a baby I wouldn’t have the pressure of going on tour.”
Amidst the personal joy of her pregnancy, Dulce María continues to pursue her musical endeavors. She recently released a new single, “Almost something,” which explores the complexities of relationships that remain undefined. “It is better to release songs when they move you, when they make sense to you, when the production is recent,” she stated. The song delves into the emotional landscape of connections that fall short of traditional romantic labels. “‘Almost something’ talks about those bonds that were not officially a couple, but left their mark. “It’s naming that emotion and that relationship that was almost love, but at the same time you don’t even know what it was, if it started or if it ended. That’s it: validating it and singing it.”
She emphasizes the importance of acknowledging these often-overlooked experiences. “They are small duels that are not named because they never had a label… The ‘almost somethings’ are generally not named and then they do not finish starting or finishing.” The song offers a more accessible melody compared to her recent, more introspective releases, while still retaining a sense of nostalgia. “I think you listen to the lyrics and you don’t need to translate them; it’s very literal, very easy, but at the same time beautiful.”
While future projects remain open to possibility, Dulce María’s current focus is firmly on her family. “My children are my most important project, they are human beings, and as a woman I have a lot to teach them and a lot to learn too.” Her overarching aspiration is to be a positive influence in their lives. “First of all, be a good mother and a good example, be able to create happy, free and safe people.”
As Dulce María embarks on this new phase, she embodies a harmonious blend of personal fulfillment and artistic growth, navigating the joys and challenges of motherhood with grace and authenticity.
