Dundrum House Golf and Leisure Resort Closes,Impacting 48 Jobs
Dundrum House Golf and Leisure resort in Tipperary has ceased operations, resulting in the immediate closure of all facilities and the initiation of a redundancy process for its 48 employees. The closure, which took effect yesterday, impacts the hotel’s restaurant, bar, golf course, driving range, golf shop, and leisure center.
Immediate Impact on Staff and Community
Employees were informed of the decision, and a 30-day consultation period regarding redundancies is now underway. Brogan Capital Ventures, the resort’s owner and operator, expressed regret for the adverse effects on staff, members, and the local community, stating the closure was unavoidable.
Self-reliant IPAS Centre Remains Operational
Despite the hotel’s closure, the International Protection Request Centre (IPAS) located on the campus will continue to operate unaffected. A two-year contract for the IPAS centre was secured in April, and it is managed by a separate third-party operator.
Ownership Transition and Recent History
Brogan Capital Ventures acquired the Dundrum House hotel in 2016.The company was initially controlled by Dublin Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) stars Alan and Bernard Brogan jr., along with their father, Bernard. However, all three individuals resigned from their positions as directors by the end of 2017.
The closure of Dundrum House highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the hospitality and leisure sector, particularly in rural areas. The loss of a meaningful employer will undoubtedly have a ripple effect on the local Tipperary economy.
